Gilgamesh

From Devil May Cry Wiki

The Gilgamesh is a set of gauntlets, greaves, and mask which appears in Devil May Cry 4, and is obtained from Echidna's Hell Gate, which it was used to power. It is made of a devilish metal which absorbs organic material and transforms it to steel[1], and its techniques can be empowered by engaging the thrusters on the gauntlets and greaves. It is wielded by Dante during the game.

When performing one of Gilgamesh's chargeable attacks, the Devil Arm will flash to indicate when a level of charge has been achieved. By releasing the appropriate Image:B t.gif or Image:B c.gif button at the instant the Devil Arm flashes, Dante will perform an attack which has double the power of the normally charged attack, and a slightly more impressive animation.

The technique is unnamed, but is unofficially known as "Just Charge", "Just Frame", and "Flash Strike".

[edit] Background

Gilgamesh was a quasi-historical king who is the central character of the Epic of Gilgamesh. He was a superhuman who became bored with his rule, and went on an adventure in which he became friends with the half-wild Enkidu and ended up seeking a method of immortality to prevent his own death.

[edit] Trivia

Echidna is weak to the Gilgamesh, as she often is low to the ground and it is able to deal large amounts of damage in the small windows of vulnerability that she has.

This weapon is an expanded version Beowulf from Devil May Cry 3, keeping most of the basic moves, many of the special and Sword Master moves, and improving on the charge mechanic.

A possible inspiration for the name of this weapon is a rumored sequel to the 2007 movie Beowulf which would focus on Gilgamesh. The demon Beowulf has a cameo appearance in Devil May Cry 4 on a movie poster referencing the movie.

The attacks Full House, Straight, Draw, and Flush are references to Poker.
