Matier is a character that appears in Devil May Cry 2. She is an old woman, and a member of the ancient clan "Vie de Marli", humans who guard Dumary Island and possess the blood of demons. She is the one who guides Lucia to reunite the fabled Arcana and to lure Dante to their island, who she always calls "Son of Sparda".

Matier is rather cheerful and optimistic, and always seems sure of Dante's eventual victory. After Argosax's defeat and Dante's disappearance, she tells Lucia not to worry and that Dante will eventually return from the demon world just like his father did.

StoryEdit

Devil May Cry 2Edit

Matier has Lucia convince Dante to come to Dumary Island, as she needs his help to stop Arius and his plan to release Argosax and transform the island into a haven for demons. Although Matier raised Lucia as her own daughter, Arius later reveals to Lucia that she is merely a defective Secretary demon, and that Matier found Lucia as she was about to be disposed of.

After her failed assault on Arius at his skyscraper headquarters in his "city", Lucia spoke with her mother and Matier says that it is true they are not related, but more importantly, Matier tells her that their ties are bound by history and experience which is much deeper then blood.
