Orbs
From Devil May Cry Wiki
Orbs are collectible, crystallized stones which appear throughout the series, and are used for a variety of purposes. The different types of stones are demarcated by their color, which reflects their purpose and origin.

[edit] Red Orb
Red Orbs are magical red stones consisting of the crystallized blood of demons.[1][2][3] Throughout the series, the amount of Red Orbs the player finds during a mission factors into its final grade. They are usually found by defeating enemies and breaking objects, and in the first three games they are given as rewards for completing missions, though they were replaced by Proud Souls in Devil May Cry 4. The amount of orbs obtained by defeating enemies depends on the Stylish Rank at the moment they are defeated, and the amount obtained by completing a mission depends on the overall mission grade. There are also hidden caches that can be found by examining or standing on unusual places; in most games, the player must find these hidden orbs unassisted, while in Devil May Cry 4, these hidden caches can be detected using Nero's Auto-Search ability. Red Orbs also function as the in-game currency, and in the first three games they can be used to purchase items, weapon upgrades, and new abilities at Divinity Statues (in Devil May Cry 4, new abilities are instead purchased with Proud Souls). In Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2, there are also red Sealed Doors which can only be opened by relinquishing certain amounts of Red Orbs to them.[4]
[edit] Green Orb
Green Orbs are magical green stones consisting of the crystallized fluids of demons.[5][6][7] In each game, they will revitalize some of the player's vitality as soon as they are picked up[8], and also count towards their Red Orbs if their health is already full. They can be found by defeating enemies and breaking objects, but are uncommon.
[edit] White Orb
White Orbs are magical white stones consisting of the crystallized tears and spirit of demons.[9][10][11] In each game, they will revitalize some of the player's Devil Trigger as soon as they are picked up, and also count towards their Red Orbs. They can be found by defeating enemies and breaking objects, but are uncommon.
[edit] Blue Orb
Blue Orbs are magical blue stones consisting of crystallized life force.[12][13][14][15] In each game, they will lengthen the Vitality Gauge. They can be obtained by purchasing them from Divinity Statues, finding them hidden within missions, or by obtaining four Blue Orb Fragments, which will combine into one Blue Orb.[16][17][18][19][20][21] These fragments can also be obtained by finding them hidden within missions, or by completing Secret Missions. There is a set number of Blue Orbs and Blue Orb Fragments in each game. In Devil May Cry, previously obtained Blue Orbs and fragments are replaced with Yellow Orbs on subsequent playthroughs, while in Devil May Cry 3 and Devil May Cry 4, the Blue Orb Fragments obtained from Secret Missions are replaced with large Red Orbs, which can be obtained simply by completing the Secret Mission again, even immediately after finishing it the first time. In Devil May Cry 2, Secret Missions can only be completed once.
[edit] Purple Orb
Purple Orbs are magical purple stones consisting of crystallized magic.[22][23][24][25] In each game, they will lengthen the Devil Trigger gauge, and thus, the duration the player can be in the Devil Trigger state. They can only be obtained by purchasing them from Divinity Statues. There is a set number of Purple Orbs in each game.
[edit] Yellow & Gold Orb
Yellow Orbs are magical yellow stones created through a secret alchemical process.[26][27] When the player dies, they are given the option of using a Yellow Orb to be brought back to life in the previous room. They can be purchased indefinitely from a Divinity Statue, and there are some hidden throughout the missions which can only be obtained once in Devil May Cry 3, but reappear during each playthrough in Devil May Cry. In Devil May Cry, Yellow Orbs also replace previously obtained Blue Orbs and Blue Orb Fragments throughout the missions.
Gold Orbs are magical golden stones virtually identical to Yellow Orbs, except that they are able to bring the player back to life where they died, even in the middle of a boss fight.[28][29][30] In Devil May Cry 4, the Gold Orbs hidden throughout the missions cannot actually be picked up — they will provide the player with a separate Gold Orb, but remain where they were found in case the player uses it and needs another. They are automatically used upon death in Devil May Cry 2, and in the "Heaven or Hell" and "Hell or Hell" difficulties of Devil May Cry 4, while otherwise the player is only given the option to use them after dying. They did not appear in the original version of Devil May Cry 3, but when starting a file on the Special Edition, the player is given a choice of playing with Yellow or Gold Orbs. If "Gold" is chosen, all Yellow Orbs are replaced by Gold Orbs.
