PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, originally named Title Fight, is an action/fighting game featuring many different characters from various Playstation games.
Development[]
Sony originally asked Naughty Dog to develop Play Station All-Stars, but since they were in the middle of their upcoming game, The Last of Us, Sony then approached SuperBot Entertainment who has been working on it since 2009.[3] They stuck with the name Title Fight until April 2012, when Sony surveyed their fans on whether they preferred Title Fight to Playstation All-Star Battle Royale[4]
After a few dropped hints,[5][6][7] the game was officially announced in 2012's E3.
The original release date was meant to be October 23, 2012 for North America and the 24th,2012 for Europe,[8] though it was delayed to November 20, 2012 for North America, November 21, 2012 in Europe, November 22, 2012 for Australia and New Zealand, and finally November 23, 2012 for the United Kingdom and Ireland.[2]
Post-release[]
The game received a 74 on Metacritic, with user ratings roughly in agreement with an average of 7.5/10.[9] The game sold approximately 680 thousand copies for the Playstation 3[10] and 240 thousand for the Playstation Vita.[11]
Server shut down[]
On September 2018, a notice at the PlayStation Store appeared under the game's entry which let players know of an upcoming closure to the game's servers, the shutdown was eventually delayed until January 2019, where it finally happened. Online features are no longer playable but the offline campaign as well as local multiplayer in the shared screen mode are still intact, alongisde the server closure, the game's Online Pass was also delisted from the PlayStation Store.[12]
Gameplay[]
Single Player[]
In the single player mode, each character has an Arcade Mode with an introductory cutscene, a rival scene, and an ending. After beating their rivals, everyone must face Polygon Man, the final boss.[13]
Multiplayer[]
Up to four players will be able to simultaneously fight against each other in stages inspired by blending 2 different series together. Each player will vie for gems, called AP, which will be found during stage occurrences or by damaging your opponent. AP will increase a superbar below the character's icon, up to a maximum of 3, which will allow the character to use their super attack, which will vary in strength and range depending on the amount the bar is filled. These super attacks are the only moves that will be able to "kill" an opponent.[14]
Multiplayer Modes[]
- Timed Matches: With the time ticking away, players hope for the most points that can be gained through killing. The lowest score you can get is -2 and each kill is worth 2 points.
- Stock Matches: Players choose a number of lives they have during a match and the last one living wins.
- Kill Matches: Players choose a number of kills first they have during a match and the first to reach that number of kills wins.
